New Method Plating Co., Inc. was approached to perform custom zinc plating services for a military industry customer. The precision zinc plating was to be performed on die castings to be used in an electronics application. For this reason, the work needed to be performed to extremely tight tolerances (0.0002" - 0.0004").
New Method Plating Co., Inc. maintains Fisher x-ray technology to be able to perform such precise thickness testing. Using customer-supplied gauges, they were able to confirm that tolerance requirements were successfully met. Additional quality testing (ASTM B633 TY II Fe/ZN 5; ISO 9001:2000 AS9100) was performed to verify adherence to the quality standards that New Method Plating Co., Inc. customers have come to expect since the company's founding in 1931.
Final product measured O.D. Ø 1.25" x 0.75" high. In addition to the zinc plating, the die castings were finished with olive drab and black chromate. By employing state-of-the-art equipment (for example, an automatic station return plating line, amongst other premium equipment), New Method Plating Co., Inc. was able to turn around 10,000 die castings in just three days.
