Chrome Plating (Electroplating)

Decorative chrome plating is a multi-step electroplating process that applies chromium to a part to boost aesthetic appeal, prevent corrosion, and increase the hardness and durability of the surface. The parts are placed into large tanks containing a mixture of acids, organic chemicals, bases, metals, and water. Once immersed, an electric current is sent through the solution. This pulls the dissolved metal ions from the solution and deposits them onto the part being plated.

New Method Plating has been an industry-leading provider of decorative chrome plating services for over 80 years. Our family-owned business is known for its fast turnaround times and high quality, making us the ideal partner for your electroplating needs. Benefits of Decorative Chrome Plating

Decorative chrome electroplating is prized not only for its aesthetic qualities but for a host of other beneficial characteristics that help maintain effectiveness and longevity. The only caveat is that it must be applied by a trained and experienced professional to ensure optimal results. Benefits of chrome plating include:

  • Adheres to a variety of surfaces, shapes, and sizes of components and machinery
  • Ideal for equipment exposed to caustic elements
  • Adds corrosion resistance and increases strength
  • Enhances durability, performance, and resistance to wear and tear

Industries and Applications

Chrome plating is commonly used on various commercial and industrial vehicle parts that are exposed to the weather. It helps parts resist wear and degradation from constant exposure to the elements. Chrome plating also increases durability, enhances performance and provides long product lifecycles, making it ideal for various commercial and industrial applications.

Another industry that benefits from decorative chrome plating is the automotive industry. Since this industry values aesthetics, corrosion resistance, and durability, chrome plating is used for various car and motorcycle components such as exhausts, engine parts, rims, and more, to ensure optimal performance.

Other applications for chrome plating include:

  • Kitchen utensils
  • Premium tools and taps
  • Appliances
  • Lighting
  • Decorative items

Types of Chrome Plating

Not all chrome electroplating is the same. Industrial chrome is different from the more familiar decorative chrome. Industrial chrome plating is primarily for wear resistance and is not a finish that we offer, whereas decorative chrome plating is primarily for aesthetic purposes and is the finishing service that we offer and one in which we excel.
