Precision Cadmium Electroplating of a Screw for the Aerospace Industry
New Method Plating Co., Inc. performed the cadmium plating for an aerospace industry customer who required the services for these cadmium and yellow screws. Strict quality requirements influenced this customer to turn to New England’s New Method Plating Co., Inc., which has been in business since 1931. In addition to the firm’s customary quality testing to NADCAP requirements, Fisher x-ray technology allows precise thickness testing.
These 8-32 x 0.401 screws were plated and finished to a tightest tolerance of 0.0003″ – 0.0006″ thickness. The project included cleaning, plating, baking and chromating on an automated station return plating line. The parts were made from 8740 machined alloy steel and heat treated off-site to RC 36-40. The cadmium plating project of 115,000 screws was completed and delivered to this Connecticut aerospace customer with three days’ turnaround time.
